Lasting Powers of Attorney UK Based and in France.

Most people in the UK realise in that it is vitally important to have a Lasting Powers of Attorney in place and especially if you have a life in two places. If you live, run a business or just simply have assets in both countries, you should have an LPA in place. It not only safeguards you but also helps your family in dealing with your affairs.

But what happens if you are in France, are you covered by your UK LPA, if you have one? If you need to give another person the power to act on your behalf in France, for example to sign your property purchase documents or if you lose mental capacity while in France through age or accident, you’ll need to apply for the French equivalent of power of attorney. This is called procuration for financial affairs and mandat de protection future for mental capacity issues. French & UK Wills

Do you know the law in France and how to protect your assets? Peace of mind that your chosen beneficiaries will inherit your French property (and other assets where relevant), taking into account French "forced heirship" rules. Call us for consultation.

There may be some ways to avoid the application of the forced heriship provisions and you should seek expert advice regarding your options in relation to this. The way in which your French estate will be distributed may also have a bearing on how you would like your assets in England or any other country to be divided on your death.

Here are some questions you may need answered.

Is it a good idea to have a French will and a UK will?

Does my UK will cover all my assets in France?

What about the European regulations on wills?

Is it better to have one will or separate wills for the UK and France?

There is more than one type of will in France, what do they cover?

How much does it cost for wills and LPAs on both countries?
